“Who is the best house painter in Bigfork, Montana?”

I can't name one "best" painter in Bigfork. It's a small market, and the online review sites have very few reviews per company, so their rankings don't tell you much. These are the names that come up most:

Painters that come up often

• Iverson Painting & Wallcovering: Yelp's top result for Bigfork. It has 4.7 (3 reviews), including one saying "Best painters in the area! Tyler and his team painted the exterior and interior of my home."
• Hisbiz Paint & Renovate: based in Somers, nearby. It has 5.0 (5 reviews), the most 5-star reviews of the painting companies listed.
• Hagestad Painting & Coatings: based in Kalispell, with 5.0 (2 reviews). One reviewer said "I cannot express how happy we are with the quality work the crew at Hagestad Painting did."
• Tevelde Homes: Yelp lists it as a top pick for exterior painting near Bigfork, with 4.8 (6 reviews).
• Stanley Lamb Blasting And Painting: 5.0 (1 review).
• Smith Painting (Bigfork): 5.0 1 Review House Painters, Interior Painting Bigfork, MT on Houzz.
• Richard Holmstrom Painting is also local, at 114 Sunrise Terrace, BIGFORK, MT 59911.

How to choose

• Get 3 or more quotes. Ask each painter how they'll prep the surfaces and what paint they'll use. Exterior jobs in the Flathead Valley are hard on paint because of the freeze-thaw cycles.
• Make sure they have a Montana contractor registration and liability insurance.
• Ask for local references. In a small town, word of mouth from neighbors is often more reliable than review sites. You could also ask at Bigfork hardware or paint stores which crews they'd recommend.
• Book early. The exterior painting season in northwest Montana is short, and good crews fill up by spring.

If you tell me whether it's an interior, exterior or cabinet job, I can help narrow the list.
